Suriname Road Show Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the Caribbean ICT Roadshow took place at the Best Western Elegance Hotel, Paramaribo, Suriname this morning.

The Caribbean ICT Roadshow is an initiative of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) which seeks to foster creativity in thought and raise awareness of the innovative approaches possible for the effective use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in government, business and social development.

The Roadshow establish programmes and strengthens ICT activity in each country it visits to bring tangible immediate and long-term benefits.

The Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, Ms. Bernadette Lewis introduced the Roadshow and presenting its objectives.

Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Ministry of Transport, Communications and Tourism, Mrs. Thea Smith then delivered the welcome address. She was followed by Her Excellency Minister Richel Apinsa, Minister in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Tourism who delivered the Feature address, highlighting the Role of information and communication technology ICT in Suriname’s development.

The Suriname presentation of the ICT Roadshow will feature a Policy Forum, content for Network Operators and a special Youth Forum with activities to foster responsible and effective use of the Internet and ICT resources. The Youth Forum begins at 9:00am at the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation.
